SEPTEMBER 8, 2008

REMEMBER THE NEW MEETING TIME: 2:00 rather then 1:00

September's meeting is all about YOU!  It's bring and brag day at the club meeting.  We all have our talents and now's the time to show off some of yours.  Bring some of your works along, and even some to sell.  We'll be putting as many as three people per table, depending on how many bring their work.  If you've any works for sale, bring them too....and bring your cash so you can support your fellow artists!  Also, if you have any samples of your work you would like to donate as a door prize, that would be great!

The membership will also vote on the 2009 Slate of Executive Officers and Board Members.  The slate to be voted on includes:

Dustie Meads - President, Vicki Ross - 1st Vice President, Sharon Crandall - 2nd Vice President, Alice Smith - Secretary, Gini Scism - Treasure, Pat Michels - Ruben Stettnisch - Jackie Schaedle - Board of Directors, Deirdre Thornhill - Carrie Haase - Gallery Directors, Misty Baker - Festival Director, Linda Cassady - Studio Director, Delane Cox - Publicity Director, Jan Horan - Past President

See you September 8th

Member in the SPOTLIGHT!

Hi!  I'm Charles Whitford.  I work with mostly watercolor because I enjoy it's often unpredictable nature.  Before I moved to the village in 1987 I taught music in Iowa public schools.  I was born in Wisconsin in 1922.  I was in the Army Air Corp in the SW Pacific in WWII and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1948.

Festival is still coming
and Volunteers are STILL needed!!!

And it ‘s time for all the VAC members to sign up as a volunteer for some job.  There is something for everyone, so don’t be bashful.  Below is a short list of volunteer opportunities that are needed right away.  Don’t be bashful—pick one or two and call the office to volunteer.  The number is 855-2064.

1. One person to come in and make copies for registration packets.  Probably about four hours of work.
2. Six people to stuff the Registration Packets.  Done at the office, in about two weeks from now.  Takes about three hours.
3. Six people to stuff and address Booth Assignment Letters.  Done at the office, and takes about two hours.  Should be the last week in August.
4. Still need two people to co-chair the volunteers committee.  This is our Ambassadors program, those wonderful people who are our outreach to help our exhibitors.   Having two people means less work for each, and one can take mornings and one afternoons at the Festival.
5. There are other jobs coming up, but I’ll wait until next month to post them.  They are available on sign-up sheets at the General Meeting, if you want to avoid the rush.
Please remember:  The Festival is the fund-raising arm of the Village Art Club.  This is the way we raise the money that we operate the club, sponsor the two galleries, and offer our scholarships on.  If you are a member, you should be volunteering to help.  (Besides, it is really fun!)

Thanks in advance!  DeLane

ART AROUND TOWN

PINNACLE HILLS ART FESTIVAL SEPT. 5 - 7

The 2nd Annual Pinnacle Hills Art Festival will be held September 5 (5:00 to 9:00) 6th (10:00 to 9:00) and 7th (12:00 to 6:00). The THEA Foundation, an Arkansas-based educational foundation, has been selected as its official charitable organization.

Several VAC members will be exhibiting at the Art Festival and invite you to stop by and see them and their beautiful art work. This is a juried show and sale which includes unique hand crafted pieces in 14 categories ranging from woodwork to photography, ceramics to wearable art, paint to jewelry and other traditional and nontraditional forms of visual art.

More information about the THEA Foundation and the festival is available at http://www.pinnaclehills.info/

USE YOUR CAMERA TO PROMOTE YOUR TALENTS!

If you are a club member you and your art could be featured in an upcoming issue of Artyfacts and archived on the website!  It's easy, and it's free!  Simply email an image of yourself and some of your works, along with a biography to dustie@dustie.com

Potters, Crafters, Jewelry Makers, Painters...everyone who is artistic and want to sell their creations have to "blow their own horns"!  Taking advantage of this website and being in the Digital Spotlight is a great way to do just that!

DON'T HAVE A DIGITAL CAMERA?

Then do the same, only with regular snap shots and regular mail mailed to me at 26 Tibberton Cr Dr, Bella Vista, Ar 72714.  This will take longer, but the "old fashioned" ways work just fine, even in these days of high tech.

We all know that artists have to promote themselves, and the Artyfacts is dedicated to promoting village art club members, toot your own horn this way and we'll redirect it to the rest of the membership!

DON'T FORGET GALLERY WEST
at the Highlands Crossing

You don't want to miss seeing the fine works hung by club members here so while out and about be sure to visit the gallery at the Highlands Crossing, located at the Southeast corner of the intersection of Highway 340 (Lanshire Blvd) and Forest Hills Blvd near the Highland's Entry.

Hours at Gallery West are 8-5 on weekdays and Saturday morning.

AND CRYSTAL BRIDGES AT THE MASSEY!

http://massey.crystalbridges.org/

It's not every day, year, or even even at all, that a museum of the caliber of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is built in your own backyard so you might want to keep abreast of their progress!

In the meantime, Crystal Bridges at the Massey (on the Bentonville Square where the old library used to be) is hosting visiting artists, exhibits, free classes and more!  A few of our members recently participated in a couple of the classes held by visiting wildlife artist, Susan Morrison from Eureka Springs,  and had nothing but good to say about their experiences!

INTERESTED IN PAINTING?

Every Tuesday is free painting day at the Studio behind the Gallery (except for meeting Tuesdays). Bring your gear and a lunch and join us!  It's always fun and often productive!  Member Master Artist's Jack Hetterich, Fred Betz, and often Rudy Aguirre are on hand to share their expertise with any who ask!

There is also a Paint on Your Own group that gathers at 8:30 on Friday mornings at Riordan Hall.  If you would like more information about this painting opportunities feel free to contact member Juanita Reed.  There are also 2 different paint classes on Wednesday mornings at 8:30 at Riordan Hall for those wishing to take lessons from an instructor.

All are welcome, beginners and experienced artists alike!
